Stop here: when not to continue DNS setup

Recognize the warning signs that mean you should stop, keep evidence and ask AlphaBlue for help.

You are not expected to diagnose DNS errors. Stop before saving another change if any item below applies.

Stop if the page does not match the guide

  • The named menu, button or field is missing.
  • The provider uses a different workflow from the screenshots or labels.
  • You cannot tell whether you are editing nameservers or ordinary DNS records.
  • The account shows more than one copy of the domain.
  • The DNS records are managed by a different company from the registrar.

Stop before deleting or resetting anything

  • The provider asks to reset the DNS zone.
  • You see Restore defaults, Reset DNS or Delete all records.
  • A record already exists with the same Name or Host as the new CNAME.
  • You see MX, TXT, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, CAA, SRV or another unfamiliar record.
  • The provider warns that email, hosting or another product will disconnect.

Do not delete a conflicting record to make an error message disappear. It may belong to the current website, email or another business service.

Stop for security or ownership warnings

  • You see DNSSEC, DS record, registry lock, domain lock or serverHold.
  • The account asks for a password, one-time code or recovery code that someone else requested.
  • The domain contact email or owner information is unfamiliar.
  • The provider asks for glue records or nameserver IP addresses.
  • The nameservers shown after saving do not exactly match the AlphaBlue instruction.

AlphaBlue will never ask you to send a password, one-time login code or recovery code through chat or email.

Stop if a service changes after the update

  • The website shows the wrong business or an old page.
  • The browser reports a certificate or security warning.
  • Domain email cannot send or receive.
  • A shop, booking page, form or important subdomain stops working.
  • Cloudflare or the provider reports an error.

What to send AlphaBlue

Keep the current page open if possible and send:

Domain:
Provider:
What I was trying to do:
Last button I pressed:
Exact error message:
Website affected: Yes / No / Not sure
Email affected: Yes / No / Not sure
Screenshot: Attached

Hide passwords, one-time codes, payment information and recovery codes. Do not make another DNS change unless AlphaBlue confirms the next exact action.
