Domain and DNS questions, problems and safe recovery
Plain answers about ownership, renewal, email, waiting, mistakes and when AlphaBlue should take over.
Does changing nameservers give AlphaBlue ownership of my domain?
No. Your domain remains registered in your account. You remain responsible for renewal, billing and registrant contact information. Changing nameservers changes where active DNS records are managed; it is not a registrar transfer.
Should I send AlphaBlue my registrar password?
No. Never send a password, one-time login code or recovery code. Follow the provider guide while signed in yourself. If more help is needed, use an approved delegated-access feature or a controlled screen-sharing session.
Who renews the domain?
The customer remains responsible unless the signed order explicitly says otherwise. Check that automatic renewal and payment details are current. DNS management does not renew a domain.
Will changing DNS break my email?
It can if the new DNS zone does not contain the required email records. Tell AlphaBlue about every domain mailbox, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, forwarding service or hosting mailbox before changing nameservers. AlphaBlue will compare the records, and the mailbox owner must complete a real send-and-receive test afterward.
Why must I not delete records I do not recognize?
DNS records may operate email, ownership verification, booking tools, shops, Voice over IP or other services. A name that looks unrelated to the website may still be important. Take a screenshot and ask AlphaBlue.
Why is the website not visible immediately?
Networks cache DNS information. A correct update may reach different users at different times. AlphaBlue will check the public DNS answer and Cloudflare activation status. Do not keep editing the record while waiting.
Can I keep my current DNS provider?
Yes, when the AlphaBlue website is on Cloudflare Pages and uses an agreed subdomain such as www.example.com. You add one CNAME after AlphaBlue registers that hostname in Pages.
This standard method does not provide a Pages root domain or an ordinary Workers Custom Domain. Those require an active Cloudflare zone managed through Cloudflare nameservers.
Can I use registrar forwarding for the root domain?
Some providers offer forwarding, but HTTPS support and behaviour vary. Do not enable it unless AlphaBlue has confirmed it as part of your project. A forwarding product is not the same as connecting the root domain to Pages.
What if a CNAME with the same name already exists?
Stop. Do not add a second record and do not delete the first one. Send AlphaBlue a screenshot showing its type, name and target. DNS does not allow a CNAME to coexist with A, AAAA or another CNAME at the same hostname in the normal way.
What if I see DNSSEC or a DS record?
Stop and tell AlphaBlue. An old DS record can make the domain fail validation after a normal nameserver change. The removal, waiting period and later re-enablement must be coordinated.
Can I change back to the old nameservers?
Technically yes, but do not do it as an immediate reaction. The old zone may no longer contain the correct website configuration, and switching repeatedly makes diagnosis harder. Contact AlphaBlue so the team can identify whether rollback is necessary and verify the target state.
What should I do if the website or email stops working?
- Stop editing DNS.
- Record the time and last action.
- Take screenshots of the saved nameservers or CNAME and any error.
- Tell AlphaBlue whether the website, incoming email, outgoing email or another service is affected.
- Keep the registrar page available, but do not share credentials.
AlphaBlue will determine whether the issue is a record mismatch, delegation, DNSSEC, certificate activation, cache or another service dependency.
The provider screen looks different from the guide. What now?
Provider interfaces change. Do not try nearby options simply because their names sound similar. Take a screenshot that includes the page title and available controls, then contact AlphaBlue for an updated instruction.
