Wix Domains: add a Pages CNAME or plan a transfer

Understand Wix's nameserver restriction and safely connect only a supported Pages subdomain.

Wix currently does not allow customers to change the authoritative nameservers of a domain purchased from Wix. Do not search for a hidden nameserver control or edit ordinary NS records to work around this restriction.

If your project requires a Cloudflare Workers Custom Domain or a Cloudflare Pages root domain, stop and ask AlphaBlue to plan the domain transfer or another supported architecture.

Path A: do not attempt a nameserver change

For a site that requires Cloudflare authoritative DNS, AlphaBlue will discuss transferring the domain to a registrar that permits custom nameservers. A transfer is not part of this DNS-record tutorial. It can affect timing, renewal and account responsibility and may be subject to registration or transfer locks.

Cloudflare’s own registrar guidance notes that platforms such as Wix may require an intermediate transfer to a registrar that permits nameserver changes before Cloudflare DNS can be activated.

Do not unlock the domain or request an authorization code until AlphaBlue confirms a transfer plan.

Path B: keep Wix DNS and add a Pages CNAME

  1. Wait for AlphaBlue to register the exact subdomain in Cloudflare Pages and send the setting card.
  2. Sign in to Wix and open Domains.
  3. Select the Domain Actions icon beside the domain.
  4. Select Manage DNS records.
  5. Scroll to the CNAME section and check the supplied hostname.
  6. If an existing Wix site, CNAME or other record uses it, stop and send a screenshot.
  7. Select + Add Record for CNAME.
  8. Enter the exact Host Name and <project>.pages.dev target supplied by AlphaBlue.
  9. Select Save, then confirm with Save Changes if prompted.
  10. Capture the saved CNAME and send it to AlphaBlue.

Wix says that @ should be left blank in forms that request it, but this course does not use a root-domain CNAME. Use only the subdomain label from AlphaBlue.

Stop and contact AlphaBlue if

  • the selected hostname is assigned to a Wix site;
  • a default A or CNAME record would need to be deleted;
  • you need the root domain rather than a subdomain;
  • the project is a Worker deployment;
  • the account offers domain transfer, forwarding or disconnection instead of the requested CNAME.
