Porkbun: change nameservers or add a Pages CNAME

Use Porkbun Domain Management safely and avoid confusing authoritative nameservers with ordinary NS records.

Porkbun places authoritative nameservers and ordinary DNS records in different controls under the domain’s Details menu.

Do not add NS records in DNS Records when AlphaBlue asks you to change authoritative nameservers. Porkbun explicitly warns that these are different actions.

Path A: let AlphaBlue manage DNS

Changing away from Porkbun nameservers can interrupt Porkbun-hosted email or web services if their records are not prepared at Cloudflare. Wait for AlphaBlue’s readiness confirmation.

  1. Sign in to Porkbun and open Domain Management.
  2. Find the correct domain and select Details.
  3. Find Nameservers and select its edit icon.
  4. Remove the existing nameserver entries only after AlphaBlue confirms readiness.
  5. Enter the two exact Cloudflare nameservers supplied by AlphaBlue, one per line.
  6. Select Save Nameservers.
  7. If Porkbun asks for another confirmation, select Submit only after rechecking the values.
  8. Capture the saved nameservers and send the screenshot to AlphaBlue.

Do not create glue records. Cloudflare supplies normal external nameserver hostnames, not nameservers under your own domain.

Path B: keep Porkbun DNS and add a Pages CNAME

  1. Wait for AlphaBlue to register the hostname in Pages and send the setting card.
  2. Open Domain Management and select Details for the domain.
  3. Find DNS Records and select its edit icon.
  4. Review Manage DNS Records for the exact host supplied by AlphaBlue.
  5. If an A, AAAA, CNAME, ALIAS or URL forwarding record already uses the host, stop.
  6. Select Add Record.
  7. Choose CNAME as the type.
  8. Enter the exact host label and <project>.pages.dev value from the card.
  9. Leave TTL at its default unless instructed otherwise.
  10. Select Add, then capture the saved record and send it to AlphaBlue.

Porkbun may show an error that a CNAME or ALIAS already exists. Do not remove the existing record merely to clear the error.

Stop and contact AlphaBlue if

  • Porkbun warns that its email or hosting will stop;
  • you see glue, host record or nameserver IP fields;
  • the requested host already has a record;
  • the domain uses external nameservers and Porkbun DNS edits are inactive;
  • the provider requests a DNS reset.
